同軸電纜抗干擾能力好，傳輸數據穩定，且價格實惠，因而被廣泛使用。那麼綜合佈線時如何選用同軸電纜?

選用同軸電纜時，應考慮信號在同軸電纜內傳輸時，其受到的衰減與傳輸距離和信號本身頻率的關係。通常，信號頻率越高，衰減越大，因此同軸電纜只適合近距離傳輸圖像的信號。

但在實際工程中，若想延長同軸電纜的傳輸距離，可使用同軸放大器，透過均衡調整對不同頻率成分分別進行不同大小補償，盡可能減少接收端輸出視頻信號的失真問題。但同軸放大器不是無限制級聯，每個點到點系統中同軸放大器最多只能級聯2到3個。

因此，在監控系統中使用同軸電纜時，盡量在傳輸距離範圍限制400-500米，確保圖像質量良好。
